Campus Christian Fellowship

Last year our spring break missions trip was to Eagle Pass, Texas and Piedras Negras,
Mexico

Some background about where we went:

Colegio Biblico is a small Spanish Bible college in Eagle Pass, Texas. It's goal is to train Mexicans to be preachers and teachers for Jesus Christ and then to go back into Mexico to share Christ with the people of Mexico. Recently the U.S. government has been getting strict about allowing the Mexicans to come into the U.S. to study. They are afraid they will stay in the States. So, Colegio Biblico is in the process of relocating it's campus across the border in Mexico.

What we did:

Our tasks included help in perfoming light construction work on the new property in Piedras Negras, which is just across the border in Mexico. The new campus won't be like our classroom buildings here. It will eventually have many simple structures. Colegio Biblico relies on the help of volunteers. In a small way we have helped pave the way to make it possible to train Mexican Christians. We were gone from Friday, March 13th, to Saturday, March 21st.

Our trip:

We left Iowa City Friday afternoon, meeting up with our friends from the Iowa State and Central Missouri State groups later that night. We all arrived in Eagle Pass late Saturday night, after a very cozy 31 hour van ride in our four vans, including The Blue Bomber and Air Force One. We stayed on the campus of Colegio Biblico, where they let us use the upstairs to the gymnasium and a couple of their appartments. Sunday we visited the market just across the border in Piedras Negras, Mexico. We had also been cordially invited to attended a Mexican church service that evening at one of the churches that was also supporting Colegio Biblico. Monday through Thursday we took turns working on restoring the roof of the chapel/office on the Texan campus, and doing light construction on the Mexican campus. After a very exciting and fullfilling week of worship and service, we began the trip home Friday morning. On the way we stopped in San Antonio to see the Alimo. We returned to Iowa City Saturday around noon with a greater closeness to God and an amazing sense of accomplishment.
